Nolan Taylor: Longing, Joy, and Sorrow
Nolan Taylor is a singer-songwriter based out of Cincinnati, Ohio who explores themes of longing, desperation, joy and sorrow in each of his songs.
His songs are informed by his own struggles growing up poor and being surrounded by addiction.
“Pretty much my entire life, I grew up poor with a father that worked hard to make sure we were fed and a mother who wasn’t necessarily present and when she was wasn’t necessarily a great time,” Taylor said. “Drug addiction runs rampant through my life, from friends to family and my own struggles I deal with mentally.”
His first single “Realize” came to streaming services in October 2018, followed by 3 more singles in September 2020.
Taylor has always had the desire to be a musician, from the moment he understood what music was.
“Ever since I can remember I wanted to play and sing. I wanted to be a singer of a band and write my own songs,” Taylor said. “I’ve been gigging since I was roughly 18 years old, so 12 years, and started recording around 22-23, so 7-8 years or so. I haven’t recorded too awful much but that is about when I started.”
Taylor decided to pursue music full-time after being turned down from the Voice in 2018.
“I always wanted to be able to sing to people and play my own songs, but I got turned down from the Voice in 2018 after making it a few rounds and from there on I pretty much decided I was going to be an artist as a full-time career,” Taylor said.
Taylor suffers from imposter syndrome like many other creative individuals.
“I feel as if I don’t belong always and it’s a real struggle for me to deal with that,” Taylor said.
The most rewarding part of Taylor’s career is how his songs “touch people and change people.” “I wanna move people the way music has moved me my whole life and it’s seeming that I’m doing that exact thing,” he said.
He finds his music to be hard to describe or to place in any one genre.
“It has soul, it has folk, some emo here and there etc. so for me to pinpoint exactly what it is hard for me to put to paper,” Taylor said. “I just hope people feel what I say and do. I want to help heal and I think it’s doing just that.”
He has new projects in the works for his fans and could release something new as early as this month.
“I am currently working on some stuff behind the scenes and I cannot wait to be able to fill everyone in on it,” Taylor said. “I’d say we will have something new to stream in April of ‘23!”
Taylor is on the road in April, May, June, and July across the country. Click here for show information.
